The “housing for all scheme” looks to increase housing supply, implement affordable buying and rental measures, initiatives aiming to reduce homlessness and mend the housing and planning systems in Ireland.
Since 2021 more than 54,000 new homes have either been built or have commenced building. Of the 50,000, 24,916 have been built and 29,343 have begun construction. Last year 9,183 social homes were provided.
The 2022 budget has increased by 20%, with governments investment budget for
housing at €4billion for 2022 and a further €4billion for 2023.
Part of the plan is the introduction of four affordable purchase initiatives
A Croi Conaithe fund that’s goal is to address the feasibility and increase the density of housing supply in city centres, aims to deliver 5,000 new apartments.
The implementation of Cost Rental, a new state backed, long term rental tenure through which homes are provided with rents that are set to cover only the cost of financing, building, management and maintenance of the home. Rents are aimed to be 25% of open market rates.
